Q. What is mobile DVR?
A. Mobile DVR solutions are RUGGED Digital Video Recorder systems that have been built SPECIFICALLY for TRANSIT / TRANSPORTATION based video surveillance. A mobile DVR (digital video recorder) has been specially designed for applications in buses, trucks, taxi, trams, metro, ambulance and other private vehicles.

Q. What is the difference between a regular DVR and mobile DVR? What is so special about the mobile DVR?
A. The main difference between a regular DVR and a mobile DVR lies in the environments in which they are meant to be used.

POWER SUPPLY – a regular DVR draws power from adaptor / indoor power supply And has steady voltage – DC 12V and constant power supply. Whereas, a mobile DVR is powered by the vehicle & supports wide voltage input/ unstable voltage during engine start-up or braking when voltage falls to 8V or less or spikes up to as high as 36V.

ANTI-VIBRATION MECHANISM – a mobile DVR is constructed keeping in mind the Vibration which is inevitable in vehicles as they are constantly in motion; which may lead to mechanical failure. The mobile DVR uses materials used for anti-vibration / shock-proof mechanisms.

DUST PREVENTION & HEAT DISSIPATION – a regular DVR is installed in open/well ventilated area and has simple design to dissipate heat working temperature range -10° ~50°C. A mobile DVR is made for installation in confined spaces and compartments where working temperature may range from -20° ~70°C and up to 95% humidity. The material & construct of the DVR allows heat dissipation and reduces dust from entering.

CONSTRUCT – a regular DVR utilizes BNC connector cable whereas the mobile DVR has aviation specification interface in place to combine devices- a rugged and solid Interface which ensures continuous transmission of power, signals and other data without failure.

Q. What is the difference between a regular DVR and mobile DVR w.r.t remote monitoring?
A. A regular DVR for remote monitoring has the option of cloud and DDNS. A DVR can be directly viewed through the cloud, whereas in the case of mobile DVR a server needs to be created.

A. The mobile DVR supports AHD technology- supports only analog HD cameras. Analog High Definition

Q. Where does the mobile DVR draw its power from?
A. The mobile DVR is powered by the vehicle it is installed in – connected with the vehicle battery (“RUN” terminal of the ignition switch), and powers on only when the vehicle engine is turned on.

Starting Up the DVR
To start up the DVR with vehicle ignition-

DVR + Vehicle Battery Connection:

The ignition switch is connected to the positive pole of the vehicle batteries. Please make sure that the connection is correct, and then follow the procedure below:

1. Connect the “DC IN +” of DVR to the positive pole of vehicle batteries;
2. Connect the “DC IN -” to the negative pole of vehicle batteries;
3. Connect the “KEY +” of DVR to the vehicle ignition switch;
4. Lock the hard disk/ SD Card;
5. When the vehicle is switched on, the DVR will start up with the vehicle.

Q. How long does the DVR take to start/ switch off?
A. DVR starts along when the engine is turned on, the only time taken is for booting. When the engine is switched off the DVR shuts down within 12 seconds. (Thanks to a built-in super capacitor which works as backup power- in case of sudden outage, the super capacitor keeps the device power on, write all the recorded data into the SD card/HDD and then shutdown the system.)

Q. What is the power requirement for the mobile DVR? Ideal power supply
A. Power requirement range 8V DC ~ 36V DC.

Q. Does the mobile DVR come with standby mode in case of low battery voltage?
A. Yes, the mobile DVR comes with a smart power management system. If the DVR detects that the battery’s voltage is lower than the given value, the device will shut down automatically and switch to its ultralow standby consumption.

Q. Is the mobile DVR equipped to handle Power/voltage fluctuation? / Won’t the sudden loss / spike in power hamper the mobile DVR?
A. yes, the mobile DVR can handle power/voltage fluctuation. It has an internal power management circuit which stabilizes – unstable/ fluctuation in voltage. It    can handle drop in voltage (for example while braking) as low as 8V or spike in voltage as high as 36V.

Q. What function does the super capacitor play?
A. The Mobile DVR has a built-in super capacitor used as backup power -when the device has a sudden outage, the super capacitor will keep the power on the device running, to write and record data into the SD card/HDD and then shut down the system.

Q. In case the vehicle abruptly stops, how much time will the mobile  DVR take recording of?

A. The G-sensor or G-shock sensor works by detecting any movement of the vehicle. G-sensor supports in motion detection by Identifying driving habits, and detecting – heavy acceleration/hard braking/sharp turns/crash etc.

Q. How many hours of footage / video can the DVR record?
A. Indicative recording of 30 GB per camera, per day or 1.25 GB per hour at 720p. So a 256 GB SD card will be able to record footage from 1 camera for 8 full days, and 2 cameras will be able to record for 4 full days (approximately).

Q. In case my memory card/ HDD is full, will the mobile DVR continue  to record the feed? Is there any warning/alarm for indicating that     memory is not available?
A. Disk Alarm – will be trigger in case the HDD is not working.
Overwrite– in case the memory of the DVR reaches full capacity, it starts to overwrite existing recordings.

Q. What is the benefit of SD card in the DVR model with HDD/SDD + SD card?
A. The SD card simultaneously takes the backup of the footage. Useful in case the HDD is not working / crashed – will act as back up.

Q. Will the mobile DVR continue to record in case of an accident?
A. The mobile DVR will continue to record till the time super capacitor backs up the power. (Up to 4 second recording in the Dual SD card model)

Q. Does a DVR require static IP for remote monitoring/ viewing?
A. No, the mobile DVR does not require a static IP. Static IP is required only for the server PC (server PC is a computer in which the server software has been installed). So to summarize static IP is only required for server pc and not the DVR.
It is recommended the Server PC should be kept on continuously while remotely monitoring the mobile DVR.

Q. What information is required while installing the 4G/3G Sim for the first time?
A. The user will require the APN, User Name, Dial Number and Password from   their respective ISP.

Q. How can users access the Mobile DVR remotely?
A. The concept of online/remote viewing in Mobile DVR is different from the regular DVR.
There is no provision of cloud/DDNS access in mobile DVR – it requires a server to create a link between mobile DVRs and remote CMS/Smartphone.
Users have to create their own server because no third party server is available. The procedure of server configuration has been illustrated in the user manual.

Mobile DVR CMS is showing inaccurate map location of vehicle. What is to be done?
A. To rectify this issue, follow the below instructions:
Go to MDVR_CMS >>> Config >>> Client Config >>> Local Config >>> unmark/disable “Convert GPS” option >>> click on Save.

Is there any option of auto backup of SD card/HDD recording on the server on WiFi ?
A. Yes, FTP function is available in all models of DVR. Through this function all recording can be transferred on server PC when DVR comes in the same WiFi zone of server.
Some highlights of FTP functions are:
• Transfer recorded video from MDVR to FTP server.
• Automatic video feed transfer over WiFi, as soon as the MDVR detects the configured WiFi network.
• The system automatically shall detect new recordings (files) and uploaded on FTP. Already uploaded files will not get copied.
• More efficient way to backup recorded videos.
• No need to take out SD card from MDVR for backup.
• No need to worry about limited storage limit.
• Reduces risk of data lost.

FTP Server Configuration procedure:

Simply follow the following 10 easy steps
1. Install and configure MDVR server as illustrated in the M-DVR user manual.
2. Download and install FileZilla server from https://filezilla-project.org/.
3. Open FileZilla application, go to edit>>>users>>>general, click on ‘add user’ to create username and password.
4. Go to shared folders>>>select the folder where you want to save the recording files (its recommended to allocate an empty drive for the recording and name the folder, for example E:\Mdvrftp)
5. Go to edit>>>settings>>>passive mode settings>>>add the port range from 11001-110040>>>>select ‘use the following IP’ and enter as illustrated in below.
6. Now go to ‘FTP over TLS settings’ and enable it.
7. Open MDVR server application, go to server setting>>>FTP Config, and fill details of FTP server like FTP IP (local IP of the computer), FTP port-21, FTP username and password and click save.
8. Now login MDVR_CMS, go to config>>>select device>>>FTP upload.
9. You can choose to upload selected video recording files, go to transport config>>>select the time slot, channel number, network mode and click on save.
10. Go to the path which is allocated in step 4 to check the recording files.
